ALISON CURTIS JONES
EXLORING SPACE IN RELATION TO PLACE AND ‘THE BODY AS SITE’
Ali will share key areas of her practice based research on Genius Loci, exploring space in relation to place and ‘the body as site’ through a choreological lens. Ali's work examines how we conceive, perceive, experience and imagine space and draws from personal histories and memory as a means to embody and define these ideas. Participants will draw from their own personal histories and memory, using sensing, imagery and proprioception to encounter space, actual and virtual, both indoor and outdoor, drawing from the beautiful surroundings of Monte Verità.
ROSA MARIA GOVONI
“GENIUS LOCI” INSPIRED BY THE PLACE MONTE VERITÀ
For the ancient Greeks and Romans, the Genius Loci was a minor and local deity, who resided in a certain city, the hills, the countryside. He had a special relationship with the harmony of the place, and presides over good relationship between the different elements.
In this workshop, the participants will be conducted to move exploring some motion’s elements inspired by Rudolf Laban studies, then the focus will be on the exploration and experimentation of some principles of the discipline of Authentic Movement.
The idea of"Genius Loci” will be introduced, inspired by the place of Monte Verità, a place that has hosted artists, thinkers, philosophers, writers, dancers and choreographers such as Charlotte Bara and masters such as Rudolf Laban which these annual events, including the workshop, are dedicated.
To his deep creative spirit, who honored the suggestions and inspiration that Monte Verità creates and created in the past, we dedicate this brief research.
Keeping in touch with the creative forces and with the ability of a feeling body to open up to the surrounding space, to the places around, near and far, could facilitate a broader vision of the world around us in deep transformation with greater openness and contact with own resources by seizing the potential good relations between the different elements.
