DEMONS OF THE NIGHT

VERTICAL FORCES

In the workshop we will explore movement using LMA principles related to verticality, up and down, ascending and descending, raising and sinking, lengthening and shortening shapes, and weight efforts in light and strong, and passivity. The tension between opposites will be experienced to create significant personal dances to discover the potential expressivity and aesthetic related on this movement theme.

Persefone, Kore, Inanna, deities of the underworld, will be a great inspiration of our research, these deities did profound processes of descent which were transformative and led to a new rebirth, a new ascend after meeting very destructive forces, which are anyway part of life and cannot be negated or avoided.

Improvisations and moment of exploration trough Authentic Movement will be part of this research which will lead toward an idea of individual and coral composition on this theme, important part of this year Laban event.

ANTJA KENNEDY

THE RISING SUN

Third moment in the morning of Sunday 20 Aug. 2017 at 07:30 a.m.

Choreographic leader: Antja Kennedy – EUROLAB, Berlin, Germany
Musician: Klaus Latza, Germany

The intention is to use the “Sonnenfest” from Rudolf Laban, which was performed in Aug. 1917 on Monte Verità, as a starting point to create a contemporary movement choir.

This workshop with the delegates of LABAN EVENT 2017 will explore the themes of the “Rising sun” as a metaphor for new life, which can give hope and strengthen us to take a stand for peace and harmony among humans. The energy we can get in the morning from the sun is very special and we will celebrate the suns arrival to this unique place on the mountain of truth. With movements originating from the delegates, we will use the choreographic methods from Laban, and his student Irmgard Bartenieff, to create the structured improvisations for the movement choir, so that each person can be seen in his/her originality, as well as the group as a whole.

If the weather permits, rehearsals will be at the site at the normal rehearsal times – only on Saturday the rehearsal will be the early morning (6:30-8:30 and 10-11:30 am).

As costumes: Please bring a long or short sleeve t-shirt and (long) pants, in the same color for top and bottom (not black!). If possible we will dance barefoot, but please bring some kind of tennis shoes, just in case.
